thanksgiving

here’s how my family does thanksgiving.  we eat around lunchtime, then head out for clay pigeon shooting before having pumpkin pie and hot cider.  my grandpa, who was in WWII, has always enjoyed shooting.  i can’t remember thanksgiving without this event.  after i graduated from the kid-sized gun, i used the one pictured below every year.  my grandpa taught me how to use it, and last year, he gave it to me.  it was fun this year to bring it next door to his house.  the amateurs among us ( i won’t name names) take turns shooting while the experts “second shoot” to get all the ones we miss.

here’s my grandpa at 86.

tyler has only officially been in the family for 2 years, but the talent must be contagious.  this was during his streak of 10 hits in a row.

the next day we headed out to get a christmas tree.  we always get one for my grandparents too who give strict instructions to get one that is 3 feet tall.  here’s jordan after sawing down this 4.5 footer…3 is just too small!

tiny bob got to come along this year!  he barked at all the little kids who wanted to pet him and tried to get in a fight with the rottweiler who lived at the christmas tree farm.

tyler’s brothers trevor and nelson both invited friends from college home for thanksgiving.  here’s ben posing with his turkey.  he was the one brave enough to get messy by putting the seasoning underneath the skin.  yuck.  but, it tasted amazing!  thanks, ben!  : )

we are so thankful to be able to go home and be crazy busy seeing wonderful friends and family all weekend.  my only regret is not taking more photos!
